Live Sound Events

This section of my portfolio will detail the numerous live sound events i have personally been involved with, and will show my knowledge of setting up different sound reinforcement systems, including PA and wedge types, digital and analogue desks, external effects and outboard equipment, power and safety requirements, as well as microphone types and placement. I will also talk about my experience in working with bands and performers, and also in mixing live gigs both as a front of house and monitor engineer.

Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom - 2nd, 3rd and 4th May

I was involved in this live event in the Barrowland Ballroom through working for the live sound company Pro Sound Services. This show was put on as part of the East End Social Project pioneered by members of Chemikal Underground Records, and was spread over the 3rd and 4th of May, with Friday the 2nd being used to set up and test the equipment. The gig consisted of a full Swing Band and four smaller folk bands on the Saturday night, with the Swing Band playing again on Sunday.

Friday 2nd

We were able to load in the sound equipment at 5pm on Friday, after an initial hours setback as we had to wait for the stage crew to arrive and build the stage. We began by unpacking all of the equipment and setting up the front of house system while the stage and lighting crews were working.

The Front of House comprised of a D&B C4 and C7 linked system, including 4 C4 subs (bottom), 4 C7 subs (middle) and 4 C4 tops (top), for a total of 12 speakers. These were arrayed in four individual stacks, with two put on either side of the stage with the stack closer to the middle angled inwards slightly to cover the centre of the dance floor. You can also see that each stack was tied together using ratchet straps for safety purposes.

These 12 speakers were powered and fed by 6 dual channel amplifiers, four D&B P1200A amps and two QSC audio PLX2402 amps, and were linked together using heavy duty EP 5 cables.
